More Than a Black Line
There have been days where our ministry here is Bangkok is office work. One of the tasks that our team has been assigned is crossing out a single line on thousands of misprinted flyers advertising for CVTV. We take a black marker and draw a line through the misprinted text. Over and over and over again.
As I was sitting in the studio crossing out these mistakes a realization hit me.
On every flyer that black line drew your attention. You knew that there was something written behind it that you were supposed to ignore. A mistake, an incorrect statement, you were not supposed to see it and it was not supposed to be there. But that black line left you wondering what it was, why it was made, and you couldn't help but think about how it was still there, just behind the line.
Jesus doesn't draw black lines.
Jesus doesn't cross out your sins. Jesus doesn't make another mark on the paper.
He makes a new flyer.
Your sins aren't behind the line, obvious to everyone. They're not a part of you anymore. No, Jesus sets you free. He doesn't add stuff to your sin to cover it up, He just takes it completely away.
Every new day comes with a new flyer. Jesus isn't sitting there with a giant black sharpie; He's just sitting there with a stack of white paper. Handing you a clean one every time. And that is why there is complete freedom in Jesus, why there is no guilt. Sin is not a part of you. It hasn't been hidden, it hasn't even been erased, it's been thrown out and it's completely gone. There isn't a trace of it left.
