Hey everybody!
I am currently sitting at The Coffee Cup in a mall in Tegucigalpa. We've been here for four days and I'm loving it. My Spanish is being put to good use, but I also lost a lot over the summer. The boys aren't shy about letting me know if I'm saying something wrong though, so I'm hoping that it will improve drastically over the next couple months.
It's winter here in Tegucigalpa. Not that you could tell by my chacos, skirt, and tank top. Baisically winter means that it's about 75 degrees in the day and 65 at night, with lightning storms every day ocassionally accompanied with thunder and some rain. There is almost no humidity because we are in the mountains and long story short this weather is perfect and I could live here forever.
Also, my tent and I are quickly becoming best friends. Three months in this thing, it's like my room. I love it. Almost as much as I love my sleeping pad. And my pillow. And my sleeping bag.
I just want to give you all an update on my team's ministry plans for the next two weeks so you guys know what to pray for.
My team is going to be teaching at a bilingual school for two weeks. I am teaching first and second grade. Turns out I don't have to get a teaching degree to teach. Maybe I'll just move to Honduras.
Then on Tuesdays and Thursdays my sqaud is teaching English to 50 adults from the neighborhood and Karson and I are making lesson plans for the next three months.
We got to visit the school yesterday and I love it. The principal, Roger, is so nice and has an awesome heart for the kids and a passion for teaching them English and sharing the gospel. If you would pray for the kids to just absorb English in the three months that we are here, that would be amazing. It is such a great opportunity for them to be immersed in the language and we want them to get the most out of it as possible.
Also, our entire squad is teaching at this school for three months. Language, reading, and science to kids ranging from preschool to 8th grade. Your prayers would mean a lot to us as we experiment with lesson plans and classroom management in general. A couple people on our sqaud have education training and/or experience but for the most part, this is totally new.
Secondly, every Sunday our squad is doing church on the streets. We're just taking church to the streets. It is exactly what it sounds like. We get to worship and have signs and talk to people as they come up. So prayers for open hearts and minds would be appreciated.
We have three other ministry opportunities that I'll blog about later on. But for now, that's what life in Honduras looks like. I think we're going to the river to go cliff jumping tomorrow so you guys may see some pictures from that next week. If you are the Skypeing type, almost every Friday from about 11-4 I'll have internet. Feel free to call me and we'll chat for awhile.
I love you all and miss you. Keep being awesome back there in the States. I'll try and update as much as possible. Thank you for your prayers!
So excited for you! What wonderful opportunities for learning for you all, AND for the children. I know your team will do great. God is good!
