When Ministry Looks Like Gravel and a Shovel

My team was on property ministry this week. We have four ministry rotations. Property is staying at Zion's Gate and working on projects around the place.

Our group this week got a lot done. We did some serious landscaping work on one area of the property. Tony just got this place last year and the area needs a lot of restoration. We built a path and some gardens. Honduras style.

This was the path before we worked on it.

This is the path afterwards.

Once we were done with the path we started working around some of the trees that bordered it.

So, as you can see, we moved a lot of dirt and rocks and plants this week. When we're on this particular ministry it can be easy to get a little discouraged at times. Especially when you're digging on a mountain and the only thing you do for a whole day is pull and pry and dig giant boulders out of the ground. But the best part of property ministry are the looks on Tony and Nidia's faces when they see the gardens or paths or whatever improvements we've done. The excitement and joy that these completed projects bring them are worth all the blisters, cuts, and sore muscles in the world. And I'm not gonna lie, it feels pretty great to see these completed gardens and paths. Our team has already been talking about other projects that we can do when we're on property again in a couple weeks.

Sometimes ministry looks like giving a testimony in a church or hosting a feeding program in a barrio or teaching in a school. But sometimes ministry looks a whole lot like landscaping or washing dishes or cooking dinner. I think that a lot of the time we underestimate the power in the little things. Jesus fed thousands of people and made the blind see, but He also washed feet. He calmed the storm and walked on water, but He also sat with little kids. There is amazing power in little details. Jesus is in the little things. You just have to look for Him there.

I got to spend some time with Sandra, a twelve year old girl from Los Pinos, the other day. She is super quiet but we found out that we both like the color blue, pizza, and writing. The little conversations like that don't happen when you're running around a classroom teaching. Jesus in the little things.

My team is going to be spending some time in Los Pinos this week. We're talking and praying for people and building relationships in that neighborhood. Prayer for open hearts and open minds would be so appreciated.

I'll have a brand new blog post next week and update all of you on ministry in Los Pinos. Thank you all for your support and prayers! They mean more than words can say.
